Juicing 101 – A Beginner’s Guide to Juicing

Juicing Beginner Before we go into juicing tips for beginners, congratulations on finally deciding to give juicing a try!  We promise you it’s going to be so worth it, and you’ll be addicted in no time.  Juicing fruits and vegetables is a great way to incorporate much needed nutrients into your diet, especially when you know you’re not getting the most out of your meals.  It also provides a great boost of energy to help you survive slow mornings and the afternoon slump.

If you’re new to the juicing world, we’ve rounded up some of our best juicing tips for beginners.

Juicing vs Blending – What’s the Difference?

fruit vegetable juice Juicing extracts liquid from your fruits and vegetables.  You get all the awesome nutrients from your produce in a juice which you can gulp down with no need for digestion!  This makes it super easy for your body to absorb the essential enzymes.  Without your body being burdened by the digestion process, you immediately feel a kick from the nutritional goodness of juice.

On the other hand, blending breaks down fruits and vegetables.  It somehow chews up your food for you even before you get to it!  It breaks down the fibers in your produce and retains it in its yield, making smoothies more filling and satisfying.  Because of the fibers, your body will take time to digest the smoothie, so you won’t feel its effects as fast as you would in a juice.

What Type of Juicer Should I Get?

There are many types of juicers in the market, and all come in a variety of shapes and sizes.  If you’re starting out, you might want to get a basic centrifugal juicer that does the job at an affordable cost.  Later on, you can always upgrade to a masticating or twin gear juicer with all the bells and whistles!

What Should I Juice?

green juice Almost anything can be juiced!  However, we recommend you to juice more vegetables than fruits.  Fruit juices have a high sugar content, which you do not want to take in a powerful concentration.  You can add in half an apple, grapefruit or lemon, but only to taste.  Even carrots are sweet, so go for cucumbers, celery, and green leafy veggies.

Also, some fruits cannot be juiced, such as avocadoes and bananas, which are mushy and best for smoothies!

Does Juice Have a Shelf Life?

Yes!  To get the most potent nutrients from your juice, be sure to drink it fresh!  If you want to take your juice on the go, you can maintain its nutritional benefits up to a maximum of 2 days, with proper storage.  If you store your juice, be sure to consume its contents all in one go upon opening the bottle to prevent oxidative damage.

We hope our juicing tips for beginners have made you excited for juicing.  Imagine getting all the nutrients from handful of green veggies (which you normally don’t eat and can’t imagine chewing on), all in just one lovely gulp.  So start shopping for organic produce, and get your juice on!
