Sober Up: How to Get Rid of a Hangover

Hangover The year 2016  has just begun and parties are being held everywhere to celebrate the !  There will be a lot of eating and drinking going on, so you’re bound to have one too many drinks.  To avoid a nasty hangover the day after, below are some tips on how to get rid of a hangover.

Prevention is Better than Cure

As the old saying goes, it’s best to take precautions when you know you’re going to be drinking the night away.  Drink lots of water to keep you hydrated.  Also, try to load up on fatty foods like steak, pizza, or fried chicken.  The fat serves as a barrier that lines your intestines, making it more difficult for your body to absorb alcohol.  This effectively slows down absorption, so you won’t be experiencing the alcohol buzz quickly.

The Morning After Cure

You had an awesome night partying with friends, but now you have this crippling hangover that just won’t go away.  Instead of doing the old “Hair of the Dog” trick which will only make you feel better temporarily, one tip on how to get rid of a hangover is to increase your intake of the following foods and drinks instead.

Bread

Water or Sports Drinks

You’re most likely dehydrated when you wake up from an all night alcohol fest.  Alcohol is a diuretic, which makes you urinate frequently.  To restore your body’s fluids, increase your intake of water or electrolyte-replenishing sports drinks.

Fruit Juices

Sugar is good for you at this point.  Fructose lessens the metabolic effects of alcohol, and the intake of fruit juices will help you get rid of the toxins in your body faster.  Juice a few carrots, apples and cucumbers and drink up!

Eggs

Eggs contain cysteine, an amino acid which breaks down acetaldehyde, the alcohol metabolite toxin produced in your body after a severe round of drinking.  Eating eggs the day after will help counteract the effects of a bad hangover.

Ginger Tea

Now that you’ve armed yourself with these tips on how to get rid of a hangover, stock up on these lifesavers and confidently party the night away!  Again, prevention is better than cure, so try to space your drinks by drinking water or non-alcoholic beverages in between, or by sticking to lighter alcohol.  Enjoy!
