You are what you eat. Nutritionist Frida Harju stands firmly by the belief that a balanced and nutritional diet is key to having soft and supple skin… and also natural contouring.
Each of the following 8 types of food is loaded with wholesome and nourishing vitamins that will keep your skin well-maintained and youthful.
For the skeptics, it may sound too good to be true – possessing a sculpted face just by consuming these foodstuffs (that many of us already normally eat) sounds a little far-fetched – but it is definitely worth a shot. Even if it doesn’t work, at least you’ll be on the right track for eating healthily.
1. Spinach for defined cheek bones
For improving cheekbone definition, I would suggest plenty of spinach. It is rich in nutrients, which work to strengthen skin tissue and slow down the aging process, as well as preventing water retention. It is also rich in vitamin A, which helps your skin renew itself and gives it a beautiful glow, worthy of any highlighter. In recent years, spinach has become a fashionable superfood and the easiest way to consume it is by adding raw leaves to a salad or eat some boiled spinach with scrambled eggs for a delicious breakfast.
2. Oysters for firm cheeks
For firm and beautiful cheeks, indulging in some oysters can sometimes be helpful. This seafood is not only delicious, but it is also full of omega-3 and zinc, which, when consumed along with vitamin C helps your body produce more elastin, which makes the skin firm and radiant. Alternatively, if you are not keen on oysters, you can always go for sardines or mackerel, as they are equally as rich in omega-3.
3. Tangerines for a defined jaw line
Tangerines are a great source of vitamins A and C, which not only help battle acne, but also speed up the rebuilding process of your skin. Fine lines and wrinkles are much easier to manage with plenty of vitamin A, as it has wonderful anti-aging properties, while vitamin C helps you produce collagen, which keeps the skin supple and the jaw looking taut. Lastly, the chewing motion will exercise the muscles in your jaw!
4. Avocados for taut skin and shiny eyes
Avocados are renowned for having miraculous effects on the skin. Unlike other fruits it contains Omega-9 fats that repair damaged skin by reducing redness and irritation. The monosaturated fats hydrate your skin, leaving it feeling soft. Avocado helps protect your skin from signs of aging due to its antioxidant properties and high content of vitamin E which guards against photoaging from sun exposure and vitamin C which helps your body produce elastin and collagen for maintaining skin’s elasticity. Lutein found in avocados is a carotenoid that works as a great antioxidant and helps protect against eye disease and age-related degeneration of the eye. The Omega-3 also provides moisture and keeps your eyes looking shiny and bright.
5. Red peppers for full lips
Red peppers are absolutely delicious and they also contain capsicum in their seeds, which adds the spiciness to them. For plumper-looking lips you can try running a tiny bit of the seeds on your lips, or add a drop of capsicum oil to your lip balm to drastically improve blood circulation in your lips. Don’t add too much, as that can end up leaving an unpleasant burning sensation.
6. Broccoli for a smooth neck
To maintain a beautiful and youthful-looking neck, I would suggest adding broccoli to your diet. It does a great job of protecting your skin from UV radiation (but you still need to use sunscreen!) and slowing the skin aging process, with vitamins C, B and E, by preventing wrinkles and giving it a beautiful glow.
7. Turmeric for an all-over glow
Its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic qualities make turmeric a good natural disinfectant and wound healer and it is often used throughout Asia for this exact purpose. Turmeric can also help repair damaged skin cells and other skin conditions such as psoriasis or burns.
8. Plenty of water for defined face structures
Lastly, it is always a good idea to make sure that you drink plenty of water, as it can help flush out sodium from your body. Excess sodium can make your face look puffy and give your skin an unhealthy sallowness.
