New York is one of those cities that you’ll keep coming back to, mainly because there’s something new and exciting at every turn. As if you need more reasons to book a ticket to this vibrant American city, here are some store openings, fun activities, and novel ideas to check out the next time you find yourself in the city.
10 Corso Como
It was only a matter of time before Milan’s most celebrated design store set up shop in NYC. The retail concept deals with everything from fashion to furniture to artworks in a brightly-lit, modern space at the Fulton Building. Similar to its Italian counterpart, the store also houses a restaurant and a garden cafe.
Delvaux
A Belgian brand rooted in tradition and craftsmanship, Delvaux has finally opened its highly anticipated Fifth Avenue flagship store at a location worthy of the brand’s storied heritage. The luxury handbag maker is best known for its Brilliant bag. Something of a retail elusive, Delvaux was exclusively sold at Barneys New York prior to opening its new doors and while it does have its own website, it does not yet sell its bags online.
FAO Schwarz
Whoever said toy stores were a dying business? Legendary toy store FAO Schwarz is planning a global takeover by opening a number of new branches in the near future and has chosen New York as its starting point. The toy store recently opened its flagship store at 30 Rockefeller Plaza and if you’re planning to visit with your children, make sure you allot enough time in the day to roam around the city’s largest toy store. It has also dedicated a section to toys, gadgets, and even robotics dedicated to STEM (Science, Techology, Engineering, Mathematics) development.
Momofuku Noodle Bar at Columbus Circle
Celebrated chef David Chang’s dining concept has found a second home with the opening of Momofuku Noodle Bar at Time Warner Center on Columbus Circle. The casual dining establishment is housed in a space twice as big as the first Noodle Bar. The quality of the food remains the same, albeit a bit pricier and with a few new items to the menu. Overall, it’s a welcome addition to the row of bustling restaurants in the area.
Jack & Fanny’s
Come for the cocktails, but stay to learn bocce. This promising speakeasy has made it to Conde Nast Traveller’s Best New Bars of 2018. It’s got a homey vibe with ’80s elements and serves up a mean selection of draft cocktails. Aside from the tipple, it’s also home to an indoor bocce court, which is a game typically played outdoors and is similar to lawn bowling. Customers can play for free.
The 75 Club
It might not be the city that jazz was born in but the musical genre is very much alive in New York, thanks to The 75 Club, which was recently named “Best New Jazz Den” by New York Magazine. Each night features a different act and you can always count on the intimate and cozy atmosphere for a great night out.
RH Rooftop Restaurant
Art, design, and good food all come together at the RH New York, a recently opened showroom at the city’s prominent Meatpacking District. The opulent interiors are breathtaking from the inside out. On its rooftop sits a new restaurant from chef Brendan Sodikoff, who has gained fame from restaurants Au Cheval and 4 Charles Prime Rib. The menu consists of American favorites like lobster rolls and truffled grilled cheese sandwiches, which diners can enjoy either indoors or at a European-inspired garden area.
Dapper Dan’s Gucci Atelier
It’s no secret that designer brands have shifted gears and focused on streetwear, but that’s something Daniel Day has been perfecting for years. The couturier, who is also known as Dapper Dan, is a favorite among hip-hop icons. Earlier in his career, he found inspiration in designer labels like Gucci and Fendi. Last year, Gucci partnered with Day and established an appointment-only atelier at a three-story space on Lenox Avenue. The atelier allows customers to customize their streetwear by choosing everything from the fabric down to the trimmings.
