Waterproof mascara always saves the day when we need long-lasting volume and curl. The best ones don’t run when you cry, nor do they smudge when you accidentally touch your eye. They’re perfect—well, almost. Removing this lash hero could be a challenge especially if your favorite proves to be too budge-proof.
For example, you might have to rub a soaked cotton pad or cleansing oil over your eyes several times to dissolve it, which could be a hassle for those with sensitive eyes and if you’re trying to avoid premature wrinkles. It could also lead to some of the makeup remover going into your eye, and nobody wants that! So to help you with that, here’s a three-step hack we personally use for those stubborn formulas:
#1 Soak a cotton bud with a dual-phase makeup remover or micellar water
This technique requires three things: a cotton pad, a cotton bud, and some makeup remover. Make sure to use micellar water or an oil-based liquid that can remove waterproof makeup or it won’t work!
#2 Position the cotton pad over your eyelid and the cotton bud under your lashes
The cotton bud will serve as the main tool for removal, while the pad will catch excess product. To keep the latter sturdy, you can press it down on your eyelid with another finger!
#3 Remove the mascara by brushing your lashes in an upward motion with the soaked cotton bud
Instead of brushing your lashes downwards, removing the mascara the same way you applied it will make it easier to remove. Wiggle the cotton bud upwards from the root of your lashes to get everything off!
Makeup artists use this technique in photoshoots so they won’t disturb the makeup already on the eyelids. So if you accidentally apply too much mascara, this also works for declumping your lashes without having to redo your eyeshadow.
