Ombre hair is the trendiest hair color these days. From blonde, pink, to multicolored shades, it looks cool and hip! However, Tumblr photos are not always what happens in real life. To get a better result for your dream hair, here are some things that you need to know before getting an ombre hair.
1. Choose appropriate inspiration photos
The one piece of advice I would give is to explain exactly what you like about the photo. For example, my stylist matched the color of this ombre relatively well, but I should have pointed out that I liked the fact that not every piece of hair had the blonde at the bottom – some are the dark brown color still, creating more contrast, which I would have preferred.
2. Know what you’re working with
Start with natural color on the top and want to keep it that way, you probably wouldn’t need as many bowls, and will save some money! This is because if you put hair color at the roots of your hair, your natural hair color will mess up the ombre color of your hair as it grows!
3. Here’s how they do it
Stylists first apply the dark color at the top like normal, then tease the hair at the point where they wanted the ombre to start and then apply the lighter color, foils it to lighten naturally dark hair. So basically, they rough up the transition area so that it has the fading affect.
4. You should probably expect some damage
Ombre style will really do a number on your hair damage-wise. About two months into this style, the bleached portions will be looking ROUGH. Damaged, dyed hair + chlorine + salt water + sunlight = disaster.
