Last year, we’ve seen a lot of long bobs, shaved heads, and ombre hair. The trend seems to lean more towards personalization, with more people not afraid to show their individuality through hair cut and hair color. Is it safe to say that 2014 will feature more bold hair trends? Read on to find which 2014 hair trend will be in or out for next year!
Mermaid Waves
We’re not talking about uniform waves here. We’re talking about been-at-the-beach, carefree, loose and totally random waves! To recreate the look, braid various sections of your hair before you go to sleep. Wake up the next morning to beachy waves and apply sea salt spray to hold the waves in place.
Above-the-Chin Bob
Forever debating on whether or not to chop those locks? Next year is the perfect time to get a brave bob! Whereas last year’s hair trend placed the spotlight on the long bob which skimmed the shoulders, 2014’s bob would end just slightly above the chin.
Slept-In Long Layers
Can’t part with your long hair? No problem. Slept-in hair will be on trend next year. The trick is to give your hair some volume. Try flipping your head over and blow dry from the roots to get instant lift and separation. You can also use a dry shampoo coupled with a little back combing to add more oomph to the roots.
Messy Updo
It seems that effortless beauty is the trend for this year! If you’ve already perfected the sock bun over the past year, this look requires just a tad bit of additional work. With your hair already up in a high bun, simply tease sections of hair forward using your fingers.
Loose Side Braid
Yet another low maintenance look – the loose side braid is perfect for bad hair days. It immediately pulls a look together without screaming “I put too much effort on this!” As with the messy updo, just tease a few strands of hair around your temples loose, as well as some of the braids. You can switch things up a bit with your braiding techniques, whether fishtail, classic, or a random mix!
Hair Accessories
This is a great way to add personality to your updo. A floral headband will look super feminine and dainty on a loose, backcombed updo. You can also add colorful bows in your hair.
Hair Color
We’ll be seeing less of the obvious ombre trend this year. If anything, softer transition in hair color will be preferred, as in the case of bayalage. Monochrome will also be big next year, which is more in line with the “low maintenance” 2014 hair trend.
As to particular hair color? If you look at celebrities like Miley Cyrus, Kim Kardashian and Elle Fanning, you probably already guessed it – platinum blonde is 2014’s ‘it’ hair color! It’s going to be a solid blonde with no in-between shades or visible highlights.
Are you ready to embrace 2014 hair trends? This year is more focused on casual waves, loose updo’s and messy long hair with a lot of volume on the roots. Looks like we won’t have to do a lot of hair styling next year, ladies!
