There has been a lot of news lately about how detrimental sitting for long periods of time is bad for your health. It causes weight gain, cardiovascular problems, and can even lead to diabetes or cancer. That’s pretty serious stuff right? Yet, what do you do if you work an office job, or out of your home doing something that actually requires you to sit for long periods of time? Take a daily dance break! That’s right.
A daily dance interlude a few times a day to get your blood pumping, and your body moving. It can also help to improve your mood since music can be uplifting and fun. All you have to do is turn on your favorite radio station, or if you are Ipod savvy download your very own specific playlist of dance songs you love to get you grooving to the beat. If you are a stay-at-home mom, get your kids involved. The little ones love to “shake it shake it baby”, so you don’t have to feel like you are doing this alone. Just a song will do, but if you want to dance to a few songs, no one is stopping you. No one is judging your moves because you aren’t out in public with a spotlight or anything like that so really get into it.
Let your body find it’s own groovy moves to dance your heart out. You’ll be amazed at how much it reduces your stress to just let go, having a dancey blast for a few minutes. Here are some songs that you can download to your own playlist to get your started.
- Groove Is In The Heart ( Deee-Lite)
- Elastic Heart (Sia)
- Ray Of Light ( Madonna )
- I Gotta Feeling ( Black Eyed Peas )
- Party Rock Anthem ( LMFAO )
- Jessie’s Girl ( Rick Springfield )
- Just Dance ( Lady Gaga )
- Stayin Alive ( Bee Gees )
- Hey Ya ( Outkast )
- Hips Don’t Lie ( Shakira )
- Single Ladies ( Beyonce )
- Hot In Here ( Nelly )
- Take Me Out ( Franz Ferdinand )
- Jump Around ( House of Pain )
Seriously, I dare you to download this list and NOT dance to it. You just can’t do it. You are going to want to strut your stuff and show off your moves! Not only will the cardio activity send good endorphins running through your body, but you’ll get a little mini workout as well. Look up some killer moves like the “running man”, “the twist”, and the “cabbage patch.” You’ll feel like you are back on the dance floor where you should be in no time. Clear a decent amount of space by your music device so you are ready to roll.
If you aren’t a natural dancer, don’t worry about it. Unless people are peeking into your windows no one will see you in all your dancing glory. Here is a tip if you work outside of your home in an office, and you can’t break into dance in the middle of the day. Do it in the morning before you leave to get your energy level up. Then when you get home, do it again. Sometimes when you walk in the door all you want to do is collapse on the couch to binge watch whatever is on Netflix, but don’t do that. Walk in the door, and turn on the music to end your day on the perfect musical note.
