So you want to fall in love? Well who doesn’t! Man, woman, whatever floats your boat now that it’s legal to marry just about anyone you want. If you are in the market to attract a mate then you have to pay careful attention to how you smell. No, I’m not talking about body odor, I’m discussing a little phenomenon called pheromones, and how smell plays a role in attraction. Let’s try to figure out what the best scents for love are.
What Are Pheromones?
Pheromones are chemicals that are contained in a person’s bodily fluids, such as sweat, that when given off are said to attract the opposite sex. It generates interest, and lust. The occurrence that is known as “love at first sight” might be due to enjoying the smell of another person’s pheromones. Unfortunately it’s kind of hard to bottle a pheromone scent, although many companies try to do just that. Fragrance companies in particular try to make scents that are pleasing to the wearer and the people around them. Fragrances are divided into categories that are called fresh, floral, oriental, and wood. Fresh is citrus, green or sea breezes. Floral is sometimes rose, jasmine or gardenia, but can be fruity floral as well. Oriental makes up a spicy smell, vanilla or patchouli. Wood can be sandalwood, cedar or mossy smells. Sometimes it can be personal preference, whereas in other cases smell can evoke a pleasant memory association.
So What Attracts A Mate?
There are certain scents that are more appealing, but it depends a bit on personality as well. Say you have a man you are dating who is a big dessert lover. Then it seems logical that if you wear a sweeter scent with hints of vanilla that he might find you irresistible. He’ll want to lean in closer all night long during your date. For a woman she might prefer masculine, powerful, clean smells on her man. That’s why a lot of men’s fragrances are described as woodsy, musky, or with hints of citrus. Citrus is fresh, and inviting. Clean. Women seem to enjoy that soapy clean smell.
Apply Your Fragrance Correctly
You want your fragrance to last all day long, but not to the point where it’s overpowering to those around you. Apply a layer of unscented lotion before your fragrance, since hydrated skin helps the fragrance to last longer. Spritz lightly on your pulse points which includes your wrists, neck, and back of the knees if you are game. Behind the ears is another good place to place fragrance as well. Don’t rub your wrist together since this breaks up the fragrance causing it to dissipate faster. Fragrance when it drys down goes through layers of different scents. The top, middle, and bottom layer all smell a little different. Hopefully the scent you choose will have the desired effect on your intended. Falling in love is a wonderful experience. There is nothing better then coming home to the one you love, having them grab you up in a big hug as you bury your face into their neck to inhale their perfect scent.
