These brilliant life hacks will teach you how to keep cool so you can survive a stifling hot summer with no air conditioning.
1. Cold cups
Store your cups in the freezer so an ice-cold drink is never far away. The chilled cups will cool down any drinks in a matter of seconds.
2. Satin is supreme
Replace your sheets, pillowcases and blankets with silk or satin versions in the summer. The light fabric will feel cool and smooth on your skin.
3. Put your cooler to work
Fill a cooler with ice or ice packs and set up a fan so it blows directly into it. The fan will circulate the cold air coming from the cooler.
4. Ice bowl A/C
If you don’t have access to a cooler for the previous hack, just fill a bowl with ice and set up your standing fan to blow directly into it.
5. Cool drapes
To cool down the air through your open window, wet a sheet with cold water and cover the window’s opening. The damp sheet will chill the air as it comes through.
6. Cold foot soak
Cooling down our hands and feet is the fastest way to feel some relief from the heat. Soak your feet in a cold bucket of water or run your wrists under cold water for 10 seconds each for a refreshing cool down.
7. Avoid appliances
Turning on appliances – from the stove to the laundry and even your laptop – generates heat. Avoid using them as much as possible in a space that doesn’t have air conditioning.
