What Type of Honey?

The best type of honey to get is raw and organic honey.  Make sure the honey you buy is unprocessed and contains the words “unpasteurized” or “raw” on the label.  Supermarket honey (those in bear packaging!) are processed and stripped off all the good stuff raw honey contains.  If you can, visit your local farmer’s market and look for raw honey.

The Honey Cleansing Method

honey face mask Start with a clean and dry face.  If you wear makeup, make sure to remove makeup beforehand as honey does not remove makeup.  Pour a small amount of honey in your palm and warm it with your fingers.  To make it less sticky, you may add a few drops of water.  Smooth the mixture gently onto face.  If you have time, leave it on for 5-10 minutes before rinsing.  Rinse with warm water and pat skin dry afterwards.

The Honey Exfoliation Method

It’s good to exfoliate skin every once in a while to get rid of dead skin cells and dry patches.  You will need the help of other kitchen beauty ingredients for this all natural face mask.  Mix honey, olive oil, brown sugar and lemon juice in a small container.  Apply onto face and gently massage into the area to slough away dull skin cells.  The sugar works as a natural exfoliant while the lemon juice brightens your complexion.  Both olive oil and honey work to provide moisture.  Leave for 10-15 minutes and rinse with warm water.  Do this once a week to reveal softer, radiant looking skin!

You can also use the above mixture minus the lemon juice as a natural lip exfoliant to remove dry flakes.  This is especially important if you’re a fan of wearing matte lipsticks.
